Those of you who peruse the artwork will notice that many of them are attached to a particular series of works. What follows is a bit of an "explanation" concerning the nature of the various series.

Distant Vistas

The first of the series, it was more or less the reason I began to experiment with photoshop in the first place. Built on the concept of alternate or speculative worlds (a lá science fiction / fantasy) it uses bits and pieces of our world to create visions of something else. Accordingly its more towards the Surrealism side of the ledger than some of the other series.

Topology

This series is all about symmetry, taking a pattern and making it whole. It draws on the traditions of kaleidoscopes, mandalas, and flowers. The first compositions were named "knots" both in honor of the song by Gentle Giant and because the very first one was more "ropelike" than most that followed.

In the Firmament

This series flows from my love of Space Rock which I see as the most improvisational and "outward looking" of the current Rock genres. The series also allows me to speculate on the implications of certain "Really Big Questions" that are not satisfactorily accounted for by the current standard model.

Iconography

This series originated as an exercise in pareidolia, which is the tendency of us humans to perceive "faces" in random (or not so random) patterns. Over time it has moved in a more "classical" direction paying homage our collective mythos, as well as tossing in some nods to Art history.

All the Rest

Of course I also have made a lot of works that don't fall into any of the above categories. For a while I tried to subdivide the (mostly) abstract works based on any number of rather indistinct and fungible criteria. It didn't really work. Suffice it to say I generate a lot of Abstract or psuedo-abstract work that just Is. Accordingly they often get named after the date when I first pulled the work out of the computer. . .

And The Future ??

Of course individual works often suggest new series that should perhaps spring into being. But for a series to coalesce, you need both a "theme" and a body of work that reflects it.

Possibilities for the future include such oddities as Runes, Fractals, Isis and Horus, an updating of the Saints (think Saint Miles the Inscrutable, or the well known Saint John - Coltrane - the Divine, etc etc) or A Tarot Deck or Who knows what. . .
